“I’m not sure I’ve ever had a class with such a well thought out schedule of readings. Each week fed into the next in a conducive way, and readings scheduled on the same day were generative to each other. Jade and Pam were there to provide short lectures on topics as needed, which was also tremendously helpful. I think the way Jade facilitated class was the strongest element of their teaching. By having students lead class, we were able to practice not only synthesizing materials for our peers but also created a reciprocal, productive space for learning together. As aforementioned, the course’s readings were also perfectly coordinated in a way that was conductive to class discussion.”

The readings for each week worked together to provide a nuanced, provocative, and foundational overview of each week’s topic; class discussion was robust and enlivened by multi– and interdisciplinary perspectives, the class facilitations has helped prepared me for running my own classes in the future, and I found that most of the course readings have been cited by scholarship I am reading in my other classes.”

I felt that the syllabus (with Pam and Jade’s instruction) guided us through the intellectual and political history of gender studies, become more familiar with major figures and terms, and take away concepts/figures that we can incorporate into our own disciplines. I always appreciated hearing about Jade’s research and personal experiences during our discussions, which added a lot of richness and context to the concepts we were discussing. She was also very supportive in meeting and giving feedback on my project. I always found Jade’s insights helpful and illuminating, so I would have liked to hear even more from her during class!”

She also really let us guide the trajectory of the materials, talking about what interests us most, which I also loved.”
